Newcomer for 3rd District announces council run

By Brandi Makuski

A College Ave. resident has announced her candidacy for the city’s 3rd District seat.

Amelia DelGreco, 27, is running against incumbent Cindy Nebel for city council.

The northern Minnesota native has a degree in biology from UW-Stevens Point. After college, she purchased a home with her fiancé, and she has a three-year-old daughter. DelGreco currently works as a claims adjuster with a local insurance company, she said.

“I’ve always had an interest in politics, from a local level up to national,” DelGreco said in a phone interview Dec. 14. “Overall, I would like to see a change on the council, and I believe if you want to see something done, you should take the reins and do it yourself.”

DelGreco is in the process of knocking on doors in her district and hearing from constituents but declined to opine on current city issues.

“It’s one thing to listen to somebody’s views, but it’s another to take them into consideration and put your personal views aside,” she said. “District 3 has college students and older families, so I don’t necessarily think the entire demographic of the area is represented fully at this point. I want to make sure the people of my district are honestly heard.”

DelGreco said she’s hearing “a good range of opinions” from those who live in the district, and feels she can represent them all with a fresh perspective.

“Of course, I have my own opinions, and the majority of the people I’ve talked to are in line with mine, but I’m waiting to see where the majority of the people are leaning,” she said. “It’s not about me, it’s about them.”

DelGreco’s campaign is on Facebook at “Amelia DelGreco for District 3 Alderperson”. She can also be reached by email at amelia.delgreco@gmail.com.
