Dalton joins race in District 9

Polly Dalton has announced her campaign for the city’s 9th District.

Dalton, 27, has a degree in environmental policy and political science from Lawrence University in Appleton. She is a farmer and cider-maker by trade. The Hartford native has lived in Stevens Point for five years, is single and has no children.

Dalton comes with some experience, having previously served on the Appleton City Council. She previously ran for the Stevens Point City Council seat in 2017, losing to incumbent Mary McComb by a vote of 194 to 118.

She believes the current city council doesn’t appear to act in line with their constituents’ wishes.

“For the past two years I’ve been following what the council has been doing, and it just seems clear to me they don’t want to put forth and implement things that are, from what I’ve heard from my neighbors and fellow property owners, what residents are really interested in being a part of,” Dalton said by phone on Monday. “It seems like they’re really addressing their roles as more a board of a homeowner’s association than managing the administration of the city.”

City Clerk Paul Piotrowski said Dalton returned her nomination paperwork on Dec. 31. She announced her intentions to run via social media that afternoon.

The 9th District is currently the most crowded race, with three candidates having returned nomination paperwork. Along with Dalton are incumbent Mary McComb, who is nearing the end of her second term, and newcomer to city government Brian Beaulieu, 34, who announced his campaign on Dec. 5.
